Boone County 180 in Color is excited to enhance Jackson Run Park, located at 2816 Grassy Branch Drive in Whitestown, with the addition of a unique and artistic shade structure. This initiative is part of an effort to enrich the community’s outdoor spaces and strengthen connections between neighborhoods and the Town. The park is designed to blend with the surrounding natural environment, featuring elements that reflect its commitment to celebrating and preserving local flora and fauna. The project will be a custom-designed shade structure that not only provides practical benefits but also contributes to the park’s thematic coherence. This artistic shade structure will be crafted to complement the park’s nature-inspired elements, incorporating natural forms, patterns, and colors that resonate with the existing design. The shade structure will serve multiple purposes: offering respite from the sun, providing a gathering space for community activities, and adding an artistic focal point to the park. This new park will be well-connected to neighborhoods and the town generally, and shade structures are a needed element to increase resilience to climate change as shade reduces temperatures by approximately 5 degrees F. READI funds will be used to support artist fees including materials. The Indy Arts Council has contributed $7,500 to the project and $18,600 is expected through fundraising not yet secured. The project will be completed between September 2024 and October 2025.
