A dedicated group of Town residents with approval of the Town Council developed a plan to update and improve the Town's 4 acre park. Currently the Town Park has two ball diamonds, playgrounds with equipment purchased in the 1970s, a 40 year old pavilion and concrete block restrooms. None of the existing facilities are ADA compliant. The volunteers worked with Indiana University Department of Rural Engagement, the Eppley Institute, and the IU School of Public Health to develop a plan for walking trails and park improvements. Using this information, the Committee has developed a plan to improve the Park including a new pavilion including concession stands, a community meeting space and ADA compliant restrooms. The estimated cost for this proposed park building is $250,000.00. The READI funds will be used for construction of the new ADA compliant facility. In the Future they also plan to add an 1800 x 6-foot walking trail and new accessible playground equipment. The Committee has obtained estimates for each of these elements. The project is expected to begin design in May 2024 and be complete in June 2025. The Town of Wingate and the Montgomery Co. Community Foundation are matching fund contributors.
