The Railroad Bridge Improvement project is a continuation of public and private investment in the Kingsbury Industrial Park (KIP), which is an existing industrial park with approximately fifty business in operation and over 2,000 acres available for industrial and logistics development. Zoned for M-2 heavy industrial and currently has access to rail service provided by Anacostia Rail via CSX railroad (southern connection) and CN railroad (northern connection). The project seeks to complete the remaining infrastructure improvement, which is replacement of a rail bridge crossing over Travis Ditch. Upon completion, CN Railroad will have an active switch and access to all of the new and existing rail improvements in the park. Project timeline and spending timeline, project design, ongoing rail improvements, October 2022-April 2023, and project bridge improvements, October 2022-April 2023. All improvement to trackage, additional trackage and bridge will be owned and operated by the LaPorte County Redevelopment Commission. JBC Rail and Kingsbury Elevator are responsible for rail design, installation of trackage. Project provides Immediate access for CN railroad into KIP Park, the shipping of 100 grain car through park to CSX. This project will provide rail accessibility to over 2,000 acres of industrial developable property to two class one rail carriers CSX and CN railroads. Climate change is addressed by providing and promoting the shipment of goods via rail as opposed to truck. Additionally, the park is designed for development of value-added materials and utilization of rail as a means of receiving raw materials as well as new finished product.
