Howard County Broadband
Overview
Howard County has entered into a contract with Berry Comm to build and manage an estimated 53-mile fiber optic ring to provide 100G service throughout the county. The project will include a fiber backbone within each build-out area. An estimated 300 miles of lateral will be built to reach rural communities. The ring will provide a secure network for existing rural broadband companies to offer services at 100/20mbps. The proposed ring will 40% aerial and 60% underground construction. Howard County completed an open procurement process and selected BerryComm as the most responsive bidder. BerryComm will engineer and construct the network. The project will provide approximately 3,000 households, 5 schools and 250 businesses access to 100 Mbps.
